Artefill® is a minimally invasive injectable filler that can help maintain youthful facial features and provide patients with the longevity they want. Natural results can be achieved without looking like you’ve had something done. Smile lines and even Marionette lines can be filled with Artefill®. Some patients receive great shorter term correction with Juvederm, while other patients request more of a facial volumization rather than just wrinkle correction. Learn more at our seminar below

Many patients are concerned about the longevity of their filler treatment, especially with the economy. There are many types of fillers available that are either long lasting , like Juvederm®, which can last up to 12 months depending on your body and how the product is absorbed. Also, sometimes a factor is how much product was used to receive your desired result. I am the only injector in my private practice and I enjoy taking the time that is needed during your injection to make you feel comfortable. Most importantly communicate with me about your facial enhancement desires and taking your time makes all the difference, because in the end it’s about what you think is best for you and how I help you achieve that look based on your anatomy and underlying facial structure.

Potential risks

A. Swelling

Sensitivity, discomfort, swelling or redness may occur immediately following the treatment.

B. Infection

Injecting foreign material carries a risk of infection or reaction. If you have had facial herpes simplex, the injection could produce an eruption.

C. Bruising

Although it is not likely, bruising may occur from an injection. When using a needle, if it accidentally pierces a blood vessel, a scab or temporary discoloration could form.

D. Scabbing and scarring

Additionally, a blockage of blood flow and loss of circulation to the area could result. This has occurred once in approximately three million injections into the periobital area, resulting in partial loss of vision in one eye. In rare cases, scabs and skin sloughing at the injection site have resulted in a shallow scar. This is a remote risk.

E. Allergic reactions

Allergic reactions are uncommon but can occur. Extra care is required if you have allergic reactions to other substances. You may be hypersensitive.

F. Systemic complaints

Flu-like symptoms may occur. These include fever, nausea, headache, joint aches, dizziness, rash, blurred vision, tingling, numbness, difficulty breathing, hypotension and tightness in the chest. These have been reported in less than 0.2% of injected patients.

G. Possible contraindication

If you have a connective tissue disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus, erythematous, scleroderma and inflammatory disorders such as polymyositis and dermatomyositis, you should discuss this with Dr. Vu before undergoing this treatment, as you may not be a candidate.

H. Temporary results

While some of the injected material will stay permanently, a significant portion will be absorbed with time and subsequent injections will probably be required to maintain the desired result. Clinical studies have shown that artifill injection may last up to five years.
However, the effect of aging as one ages will affect the overall appearance of the lines and creases.

Thus additional injections of fillers may be required to maintain the longevity.

Post Procedural Care

A. Ice packs

Ice should be applied continuously in order to decrease swelling. Icing shouldcontinue as much as possible during the first 24-48 hours.

B. Elevation

Try to sleep with your head elevated to decrease swelling.
Blisters Notify Dr. Vu immediately if any blisters or pimples develop.

C. Discomfort

For the first several days, you can expect some discomfort. This will gradually lessen over 3-4 days.

D. Bruising

Bruising: There may also be some bruising, which can last for 7-10 days. The injected area will feel very swollen for the first 5-10 days. This swelling will gradually decrease over the first 2 weeks. Most patients are comfortable returning to work soon after injection. Some swelling may persist for several months after the initial treatment.

E. Numbness

The injected area may feel slightly numb after the procedure. This is due to the local anesthetic as well as the swelling. This feeling normally fades with time.
